Grief is a powerful force that reshapes our inner world. When someone close to us passes away, especially under difficult circumstances, the pain can feel overwhelming. I recently lost my ex-girlfriend, who had struggled with her health for a year. Although we were not on good terms, I always believed she would live forever. Grief has a way of pulling memories from the shadows, reframing them through every emotion we experience.

In my journey, I have encountered many losses, including immediate family members. Each death brings a unique pain and requires its own way of coping. Ceremony experiences, such as those facilitated by Kambo, have become valuable allies in my walking through the valley of shadows of death. Yet, timing is crucial. Rushing the grief process or using psychedelics too soon can hinder true healing. This post explores why respecting the timing of grief is essential when considering psychedelics as part of healing.

Understanding Grief as a Process

Grief is not a linear path. It unfolds in waves, sometimes gentle, sometimes crashing. It demands attention and respect. The pain of loss is an initiation, a rite of passage that asks us to face deep emotions and memories.

  • Grief pulls memories out of hiding. Moments once buried resurface, often unexpectedly.

  • Our psyche reframes these memories through sadness, anger, guilt, or even relief.

  • Each emotion offers insight into our relationship with the person we lost and ourselves.

Trying to bypass or rush this process can leave wounds unhealed. Fully experiencing grief allows us to integrate the loss in a healthy way. This integration is necessary to avoid being consumed by grief indefinitely.

Why Psychedelics Are Not Always the Right Choice During Early Grief

Psychedelics can offer profound healing, but they are not a quick fix or a way to escape pain. When grief is fresh and raw, the mind is fragile and vulnerable. Introducing psychedelics too early can:

  • Amplify emotional turmoil instead of soothing it.

  • Trigger unresolved trauma that the person is not ready to face.

  • Create confusion by mixing intense grief with altered states of consciousness.

In my experience, Kambo has been a powerful tool for healing, but only when the timing felt right. It helped me walk through the darkest moments with clarity and strength. However, I had to honor the natural pace of my grief before engaging with it.

The Role of Forgiveness and Release in Healing

Grief often carries layers of unresolved feelings, including anger and regret. Forgiveness is a key step toward release. This does not mean forgetting or excusing what happened but allowing yourself to say goodbye without holding onto bitterness.

  • Forgiveness frees the heart from being trapped in pain.

  • Release allows space for new growth and peace.

  • Healthy integration of grief involves acknowledging all emotions without judgment.

When we hold onto grief tightly, it can consume us. Psychedelics can sometimes help facilitate forgiveness and release, but only when the person is ready to face these emotions consciously, with an embodiment plan.

Practical Tips for Navigating Grief Before Considering Psychedelics

If you are grieving and curious about using psychedelics for healing, consider these steps first:

  • Allow yourself to fully feel grief. Don’t rush or suppress emotions.

  • Seek support from trusted friends, elders, and/or professionals. Connecting with the right people helps process feelings.

  • Engage in grounding practices like meditation, journaling, yoga, and nature walks.

  • Reflect on your readiness. Are you prepared to face deep emotions in an altered state? Do you have an integration protocol?

  • Research and connect with experienced guides if you decide to explore psychedelics.

Remember, grief is a personal journey. What works for one person may not work for another. Respect your own timing and needs.

How Kambo Helped Me Walk Through Grief

Kambo, a traditional cleansing ritual using frog secretion, has become a significant part of my healing. It helped me:

  • Release stagnant emotions trapped in my body.

  • Gain clarity on my feelings toward lost loved ones, and our shared past.

  • Build resilience to face the shadows of loss without being overwhelmed by them on a daily.

The key was using Kambo only after I had allowed myself to experience the initial waves of grief. It supported me in moving forward, not bypassing the pain.

Final Thoughts on Grief and Psychedelic Healing

Grief demands patience and respect. Psychedelics can be powerful allies in healing, but timing matters deeply. Fully experiencing grief, forgiving, and releasing are essential steps before engaging with altered states. This approach helps ensure that healing is genuine and lasting.

If you are grieving, honor your process. Seek support, be gentle with yourself, and when the time feels right, explore healing tools like Kambo or other psychedelics with care and guidance. Saying goodbye is never easy, but it can lead to peace and transformation.
